Behind the Scenes (Swimwear)
Those sharp eyed visitors will notice my latest set of images; a swimwear shoot in the fashion section.
Heres a sneaky behind group shot of those involved. We all had a great day and a special mention has to go to Jemma Saare (Model) as she came a long way for the shoot and managed to perform very well considering she had a cold!

A busy week (Part 2)
I blogged recently about a crazy week I had. The first part involved an awesome shoot for a local designer. We shot on the Monday, and I had to give her the images Tuesday so she could put them up on exhibition at a Fashion show Thursday. Like I said…crazy week!
As it turned out, I ended up shooting the Fashion show as well called 20ten. It was part of the yearly exhibitions that are produced by the students at the Nottingham Trent University. I took images across all four shows with the same 80 designers (approx) in each show. Each designer had 6 pieces in their collections. From these numbers you can work out I ended up with a lot of images!
I collections of my favourite designs are below.
Probably my favourite collection. Striking creativity and detail in this knitted collection.

Gotta love the superhero inspiration here!

These last three are all from the same collection and they really appeal to my gothic sensibilities. I’ve never been a goth though! I just like the style and these pieces are real goth chic. What goth wouldn’t want to wear one of these!

A busy week (Part 1)
Some weeks you can be waiting for clients to respond to your quotes and then other weeks, those same clients will want there work doing at the same time.
Well a few weeks ago I had one of the latter examples. A mad week!
Part 1 of the week:
I had to find a studio and book it within a day of the shoot and then deliver the images the day after the shoot. This isn’t what i normally do. I like to take my time with my images and produce the best possible results I can this speedy approach doesn’t always lend itself to that, but when I clients needs the images quickly, you got a pull an all nighter shall we say.
So anyway to the shoot. The client was Luci Bennett, a local designer who needed some shots of her newest collection. The collection had a quite sporty feel, think Stella McCartney for adidas and you are in the right area, but with some really nice unusual fabrics. The resulting images would then be put into portfolio/look book and turned into a slideshow and used on large screens in an exhibition.
The shoot was awesome! The model we lined up was one I have worked with before, Emily Palmer. She moves really well and has amazing posture (something i really need to work on!) plus she has done some ballet before which sat in really well with the sports theme.
Some behind the scenes shots below, taken by my last minute assistant Amy Wilson who i thank very much for her help, she was awesome and will do very well in the future.
The images and video from the shoot will be up soon! In the meantime, check out my Fashion Portfolio to get a feel of my work.
Me fiddling with lights, I do this a lot!

I like to make sure the clients gets a good idea of what we are doing as the shoot progresses

Oxfam Shoot
I recently got asked to do a TF shoot, or a “time for” shoot.
I don’t normally like to do these and only do them on very special occasions.
Turned out this was a special occasion. A friend of mine, Sam, runs FreeQ magazine (www.freeqmagazine.com) and wanted me to shoot some fashion shots for it. I like FreeQ, because it is a little different from your usual locally run, free publication. You get interviews with big named artist and photographers, and some really creative graphic covers that some of the national mags should really take notice of.
The story gets better though, as he wanted use clothing from an Oxfam shop. And not just any Oxfam shop. Nottingham has probably the best looking and trendiest Oxfam shop this side of London (can’t confirm this though!) and not only were we going to get the clothes from there, we would be using the shop as a location! The shop is really nice, with bold colours and a vintage feel and I knew we’d be able to get some great shots in there.
Check out the images in the fashion section of www.paullarkins.co.uk.
The images can also be seen on the last few pages of the latest issue of FreeQ (issue 11).
Special thanks go to these people for helping out on the day.

New Website!
Ok,
So I’ve been meaning to update my website for some time. The last one served it’s purpose very well. I used it kinda as a portfolio, that I just kept on top off. Every time I created something good, I’d update the site. It was a great way to look at all the imagery I had created, and take real stock of where I was going and what style I was developing.
But websites are about marketing right? And well lets just say my last one was not great for marketing. I can count on one finger how many jobs i got that came through it.
So I’ve decided to try something else! I regularly read Melissa Rodwell’s blog over at www.fashionphotographyblog.com and she posted one about possible website solutions for photographers. Within this was Viewbook.
Anyway to cut a long story short, I took the thirty day trial and liked it. With the Pro account you can really do some amazing things. I won’t list them here, suffice to say, if you are a creative person, you should give it a try.
